L:
Today rightfully belongs to Love. It rules the alphabet of emotions, it rules everything. Though my physics training fights me, it is love that makes the world go round. But today is also Friday the thirteenth. So giving all due rights to the day, I should focus on the Dark side of Love.
To an extent we’ve all experienced it. What teenager hasn’t gone through the almost crazy infatuation when the feeling overtakes one's existence? When all one wants to do is smell roses and lilies and all  one wants to see is that one person whose look you crave. When you know the lilt and rhythm of that person’s step, when that one voice is all overpowering and you know you want to hear it all day.
And night.
You know you’ve been bitten a little by the limerence bug.
Of course the boundary between being crazy and being mad is all very hazy and nebulous. It’s a mere step from being infatuated and stalking. There’s a lot more to limerence that I chose to write about.
The fantasies that permeate from the mind to real life. The existence that occurs in the surreal plane between the fact and figment of imagination. The palpitations brought about by the idea that one’s affection may not be reciprocated.
When the ideas and realities mingle into a dark sludge of nether. It slowly nibbles at one's existence. Crunch. Crunch.
It grows to overtake all that one knows to be true. There is only one thing that matters. The longing swells. Life with unrequited love is unimaginable. Unthinkable. A dark goblet of poison to be drunk slowly. Easier to succumb.
Whump. Whump. Hear that? That's tragedy is knocking long and hard at the door of reason...

Oh but all that is so unromantic.
I like to think that we all walk the cobblestoned path of limerence, with the summer sun shining through white feathery dandelions flying about in the wind and the aroma of linden flowers, so heady and strong heralding love, love, love.
From there on, its but a hop skip and jump into the pool of madness. But luckily most of us get through it.
And live with happy memories of crazy times.
Crazy times of love.

L is for Limerence

  1. I'd never heard this word before your post, but it hit me like a ton of bricks. Limerence was my life as a teenager. I was constantly in love and it was indeed a terrible, wonderful feeling.

  2. I hadn't heard the word limerence before, either, but it is certainly an interesting word. I enjoyed how you did a Friday the 13th spin on love for the day!

  4. I actually wiki-ed this word! :-) Life with unrequited love is unimaginable. Unthinkable. A dark goblet of poison to be drunk slowly. Easier to succumb.

    Shiver.
