“If I didn't care for fun and such,
  I'd probably amount to much.
But I shall stay the way I am,
Because I do not give a damn.”
  -- Dorothy Parker

A:

She wound up her cursory scan of the newspaper headlines.
Hunger and famine kills 29 thousand kids in three months.
Floods, landslides kill at least 53.
Terror attack kills 17, wounds 80.
“Why us? Whatever have we done to deserve this?”
“Who? Who is the murderer of these people?”
Questions lay hidden within the clinical words of the reports. Victims’ pain flowed only veiled from the journalist’s fingertips.

She shrugged.  Nothing new. The same old shit that happens all the time. That happens everywhere.

Whatever. Wonder what's playing at the movies today?

As I enter this month of April of having promised a short blog a day on emotions and feelings, I wondered what feeling is it that I feared the most?
And the word came to me on the wings of all the souls it had mangled.

A is for Apathy

  1. Very powerful! Apathy is, indeed, terrifying. The less people care, the worse this world will get.

  2. It is sadly true that sometimes we become hardened to tragic events. And hearing reports of these events wind up sounding like old news. Thanks for reminding us to pay attention to these with empathy.

  7. It's so true and sad that apathy is growing like a monster.

Can't wait for 25 more emotions!

  8. The apathy is only growing over the years. One would think education will build awareness and empathy, but that is sadly not so. I'm afraid we'll soon face a revolution - someone from this new generation is likely to ask, "If you don't have bread, why don't you eat cake?"

    As always, excellent post, Sangi!

  11. If ignorance is bliss then apathy can't be all that bad? ..I think that, that's a way for the human mind to grasp all the inhuman things happening around us and yet manage to keep us happy :) .. Just imagine how it would be if we were to worry ourselves about everything constantly? And in certain situations, even if we are extremely empathetic, there won't be much that we can do to alleviate the problem. I am not trying to glorify apathy since there is a limit to everything, but just trying to put things into perspective :)
